Making Audition Stories Book 2

The collecting and sharing of audition stories from alumni of the High School of Music and Art has been both surprising and gratifying. I’m so happy that others still reflect as I do about our time at The Castle, as if it were yesterday. These shared memories, help to show just how similar we all are.

Many of these cherished experiences can be found in Audition Stories – I Got Accepted to The High School of Music and Art and I’d like to again thank everyone who participated in this labor of love. Because of the impressive response to the first book and the number of alumni that continue to send me memories, I’ve decided to begin work on book two. This way, even more alumni, their families and all friends of M&A can easily share and relive these precious memories.

The working title (which is subject to change) is AUDITION STORIES BOOK 2 - I Was Accepted To The High School of Music and Art.

I’m again calling for Music and Art audition memories from the 1930’s through the 1980's. I’m seeking the answers to such questions as:

"What prompted you to seek out M&A?"
"What happened during the actual audition and how did you feel?"
"How did you feel when you found out that you were accepted?"

I would also be appreciative of any related additional experiences or photographs that you may wish to add.

If you wish for your story to be part of the upcoming book, please email it to me at:
[email protected]
(Leaving your story on Facebook will be entertaining for those that have access to the site but there is no guarantee that your experience will be published).

Lastly:
1. State the year of your graduating class.
2. State your exact name that will be posted with the story.
3. If applicable, state your maiden or former name when you attended M&A. This is needed to verify your existence when you attended our school.
4. Your yearbook photograph will be used with your story. If you wish for another photograph to be used, please forward it to:
[email protected].

Prior to publication, you will have a chance to review your story and picture(s) so you can give your final okay before it’s placed in the book.

I'm looking forward to adding your heart-warming story as a cornerstone of this even growing and shared project.

How do I start? I'd love to share my story. Unfortunately, my mother died but she was the first class of M&A. My son, subsequently, went on the HSPVA in Houston (Houston School of Performing and Visual Arts) - '67.
To whom to I mail my memories?

Hi Lloyd! I wanted to let you know that I am writing my memories of the audition and feelings leading up to and around it... I just wanted to know if you have a sense of how long it should be? I have a bit more than two pages, and wanted to keep it at two pages, but can't seem to find where I would cut it; if anything, I have more to add, but will try to limit it. Is 2 and1/2 pages too long?
I am so glad you have started this project, and wow, this will be book 2! M&A was so important in our lives.

Hi Abby. Two-and-a half pages is not too long. Please let your memories run as long as it takes. Include photos, if you have any. The response from Book One was that people love reading the M&A memories because they can relate and reminisce. Include photos, if you have any. Thanks for your interest.
