The cover art for the upcoming book is complete. The title is "AUDITION STORIES - I Got Accepted to the High School of Music and Art." Notice that the colors of light blue and purple were used to help express the excitement of that irreplaceable moment. The deadline for handing in your heart-felt stories is Sunday, July 19th. After a review, all stories will be included in the book. Send your stories to [email protected], as soon as possible.
Make certain to add your year of graduation and your last name if it is different than what appears in the yearbook.

I remember nervously playing Schumann's "Of foreign Lands and People's" on the piano. Then I was asked to sing back several music phrases and tap back some rhythms. I was nervous, of but they(unfortunately I cannot remember who) were kind and encouraging. And - yay - I was IN!!!

It was an exciting time. Before going to M&A in 1966 I had to put together a portfolio of artwork a couple of weeks before. I have never painted before. Off I went to the nearest art supply store under the Westchester El in the Bronx with my reluctant father. Between my father's set limitations and help from the store owner I was able to put together supplies costing $75.00. My father could hardly speak. The hardest part of it was deciding what to paint but paint I did. When I arrived with my few works and found the classroom where I was going to be judged the environment was incredible. I had to be accepted...and thank God I was. It was extraordinary to be in a castle with such talented students and staff that inspires you from the moment we gather outside until we all head home. Can we do it again?

We are way past the due date for submission of the stories. If you decide to extend, I would still love to write a brief account of my firsts with M&A.

Sorry but the book has moved to be printed. Depending on the response to the upcoming book, I might be doing a volume two.
